Create the Market Bag Base

Chain 48 sts,

Row / Round 1:

ch 1, 5 sc into last ch on hook, (see stitch diagram for start and Row / Round 1 to 3)
1 sc into each st until the second last stitch of the chain (46 sts) , 6 sc into the last ch, work back on the start chain ,
1 sc into each st until end. Join with slip stitch into ch 1,

104 stitches per round.

Row / Round 2:

Ch2 - counts as first hdc st, 1 hdc into each stitch round.
Join with slip stitch into top of ch2.

(104 sts).

Finish off color if working color stripes, Do this for every Row / Round to follow, if working stripes.

Row / Round 3: Ch2, 1 dc into each stitch around. Join with slip stitch into top of ch 2. (104 sts).

Row / Round 4: Ch1, 1 sc into each st. Join with slip stitch into top of ch 2. (104 sts).

Row / Round 5: Ch2, 1 dc into each stitch around. Join with slip stitch into top of ch 2. (104 sts).

Row / Round 6 : Ch2, 1 hdc into each stitch. Join with ss into top of ch2. (104 sts)

Repeat Row / Round 4 to 6, 1 time over.

Strap sides

Place the bag flat down.
52 stitches create the front of the bag. 52 stitches create the back of the bag.
Mark the first stitch of the 52 front stitches. Count 52, mark the last stitch of the 52 front stitches.

Join with starting slip stitch into the 1st stitch of front 52 stitches.

Row / Round 44 :

ch2, counts as 1 dc , 1 dc into next 12 stitches, 1sc into next 26 stitches, 1dc into next 26 stitches, 1 sc into next 26 stitches, 1 dc into next 13 stitches, Join with ss into top of ch 2. (104 sts).

Row / Round 45 :
ch2, counts as 1 dc , 1 dc into next 10 stitches, 1sc into next 30 stitches, 1dc into next 22 stitches, 1 sc into next 30 stitches, 1 dc into next 11 stitches, Join with slip-stitch into top of ch 2. (104 sts).

Row / Round 46 :
ch2, counts as 1 dc , 1 dc into next 8 stitches, 1sc into next 34 stitches, 1dc into next 18 stitches, 1 sc into next 34 stitches, 1 dc into next 9 stitches. Join with slip stitch into top of ch 2. (104 sts).

Row / Round 47 :
ch2, counts as 1 dc , 1 dc into next 6 stitches, 1sc into next 38 stitches, 1dc into next 14 stitches, 1 sc into next 38 stitches, 1 dc into next 7 stitches, Join with ss into top of ch 2. (104 sts).

R ow / Round 48 :
ch2, counts as 1 dc , 1 dc into next 4 stitches, 1sc into next 42 stitches, 1dc into next 10 stitches, 1 sc into next 42 stitches, 1 dc into next 5 stitches, Join with ss into top of ch 2. (104 sts).

End off after Row / Round . Work in ends.

Bag Flaps

Fold the bag flat, the two side edges will be higher than the inner part of the bag.
Start from the outside in, work only in dc stitches.
Tie with slip stitch , sc, ch1, work 1 sc into next 4 dc sts, ch1, turn, 1 sc into each sc sts from Row / Round before, ch1, turn, 1 sc into each sc from Row / Round before ( 3 x Row / Rounds of 5sc sts),
Finish off color and join the metal ring.

Repeat on the other side of the bag.

Strap

Chain 100 or as many as you would like your strap of your bag to be.

Work 1 sc into each chain, ch1, turn, work 1 sc into each st from Row / Round before, repeat until you have the required thickness for your strap.

Finish off. Work ends.

Fasten the straps to the metal hook using some yarn and a wool needle. Finish off. Work ends

Notes for straps.
If you wish to have a softer strap, replace sc stitches with either hdc or dc stitches.
