Selecting your colors for the Round Crochet Tote Bag
I Used 3 colors of Craft Cotton yarn to make My African Sun round tote bags.
Yarn length used for each color was as follow :
- Color 1 : 166 m / 180 yards
- Color 2 : 83 m / 90 yards
- Color 3 : 249 m / 270 yrds
First is the lightest color yarn which will be your center color, and create the center of the African Sun panel, it should be visibly different from the next darker color so that you have enough contrast between light and dark for the African Sun pattern to visually show, you will need two balls of this, which is approximately 166 meters or 180 yards of light-colored cotton yarns when using a 4.5mm crochet hook.
For the next color, it is best to use a color tone that is between the lightest and darkest colors you selected, this will create a contrasting shadow between the sun rays of this African Sun Tote Bag. This color joins in towards the center of the pattern, and not a lot of yarn is used in this color, which is approximately 83 meters or 91 yards of mid-colored cotton yarn when using a 4.5mm crochet hook
The last color can be a much darker color for your main body of the bag, which will be the coloring between the rays, the outer rounds of the bag, and the outer layer of the strap, This color will be the main color that you use for joining the crochet panels together, you will need approximately 166 meters or 180 yards of dark colored cotton yarn when using a 4.5mm crochet hook.

Crochet Pattern difficulty level: Intermediate.
This pattern requires the following crochet skills;
- Understand the concept of front post and back post crochet stitches,
- Understand what the BLO ( Back loop only ) terms mean.
- Know how to skip stitches when required in the pattern.
- How to make a magic ring.
- How to work in the round.
- How to finish off yarn, and join new color yarn for the next row.
- Understanding what RS - Right Side means when working in the round.
- Suggested yarn for crochet tote bag pattern.
- DK Cotton, Bamboo, or Nylon Fibre content yarn
- Yarn Length required : +- 420m/460 yards
- Recommended Crochet hook size: 4mm or 4.5 mm
For the pattern example of this circle crochet bag pattern, I used Craft Cotton yarn, which has a tight spun, and does not unravel easily, which makes your bag sturdy and strong. The Craft yarn used had a recommended crochet hook of 4.5mm , but I chose to use a 4mm crochet hook, as I prefer my crochet bags finished project to the tightly woven and as little holes as possible, and by slightly making my crochet hook smaller, I achieve a durable finished fabric.
To finish each bag I used about +- 420m/460 yards of craft cotton yarn, and the average size of the finished bags pouches is 25cm x 25 cm / or 10 x 10 inches.Do note that if you select a heavier yarn, and a large crochet hook, your finished bag size will be larger as your gauge will be larger. This bag can work in chunky yarn, but please consider as you go up in weight and width of yarn it adds to the weight of your finished project, so if you don't want to hae a workout every time you pick up your bag, consider a workable medium weight yarn.

Construction of a Round Pouch Crochet Tote Bag
This Circle tote crochet bag consists of 3 main parts, the front tote round panel, the back tote round panel, and of course the strap.
You have the option to have the sun crochet motif on both the front and the back of the bag, to do this you repeat the Sun Motif , Panel A, twice, this is a great option if you have a zipper or button closing the top of your crochet bag, as you don't have a distinctive front or back of the bag and can be carried with any side facing front.
If you wish to only have the Sun motif on the front of the bag, you complete panel A and Panel B, as panel B, is a plain base panel with no motif, your bag will then have a district front and back side to the finished bag.
The Strap also doubles as the base of the bag, so if you wish to have a bag with a wide base you can always make your strap wider by adding some additional rows, but note that when adding width to your strap and base you are also adding width to the top of the bag, so the opening of the bag will also be wider.
