Chain Stitch - ch
UK : ch - chain
AFR : ks - ketting steek

Make a slipknot, yo, pull through loop. Repeat for desired chains.

Slip Stitch - sl st
UK : sl st - slip stitch
AFR : gls - glysteek

1. Insert hook into the stitch or space.
2. Yarn over and pull through the stitch and the loop on your hook (one motion).
3. Used to join rounds or move without height.

Single Crochet - sc
UK : dc - double crochet
AFR : kb - kortbeen / kortbeentjies / enkelhekel

1. Insert hook into the next stitch.
2. Yarn over and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook).
3. Yarn over and pull through both loops. → 1 sc complete.

Half Double Crochet - hdc
UK : htr - half treble crochet
AFR : hlb - Halwe Langbeentjie / Half Lang Been / half-dubblehekel

1. Yarn over.
2. Insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops).
3. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.

Double Crochet - dc
UK : tr - treble crochet
AFR : lb - Langbeentjie / dubblehekel

1. Yarn over.
2. Insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop (3 loops).
3. Yarn over and pull through first 2 loops (2 remain).
4. Yarn over and pull through last 2 loops.

Shell Stitch - sh
UK : sh - Shell stitch
AFR : skulp - skulp steek

1. Work 3 dc of any (hdc,dc,tr) into same stitch or space.
2. Skip 2–3 sts depending on pattern, repeat.

V Stitch - v st
UK : v st - V-stitch
AFR : Vst - V steek (lb,ks,lb)

1. Work dc, ch1, dc into same stitch/space.
2. Skip per pattern and repeat; creates an open V motif.

Chain Space - ch-sp
UK : ch-sp - chain space
AFR : Ks sp - Kettingsteek spasie

1. Make a slip knot on the hook.
2. Yarn over (yo).
3. Pull yarn through the loop on the hook. → 1 ch made.
4. Repeat for desired number of chains.

Space Before - sp before
UK : sp before - space before
AFR : spv - Spasie Voor

Insert hook in space before marked stitch.

Space After - sp after
UK : sp after - space after
AFR : spa - Spasie Agter

Insert hook in space after marked stitch.

Next - nxt
UK : nxt - next stitch
AFR : volg - Volgende

1) Finish current stitch.
2) Move hook to the following stitch/space.
3) Insert hook as instructed and work the stitch.

Stitches - sts
UK : sts - stitches
AFR : sts - Steke

1) Identify the stitch’s top “V”.
2) Insert hook as pattern instructs (both loops or FLO/BLO).
3) Work the stitch to completion. 4) Count stitches regularly.

1) Find the *.
2) Work the instructions after it.
3) When told, go back to * and repeat the sequence the required number of times.
4) Stop when the pattern says.

  • (sc/dc) = single crochet
  • (hdc/htr) = half (double crochet/treble crochet)
  • (dc/tr) = (double crochet/treble crochet)
  • (tr/dtr) = (treble crochet/double treble crochet)
  • V-st = (1 (dc/tr), ch 1, 1 (dc/tr) in the same stitch)
  • 6-(dc/tr) shell = 6 (dc/tr) stitches in the same stitch

Row 93

Ch 2, * (hdc/htr) in each st across. (hdc/htr) in last st. Fasten off.

Row 94

Ch 3, (dc/tr) in each st across. Fasten off.

Row 95

Ch 1, * (sc/dc), ch 2 in first st, 3 (dc/tr) in same st, skip next 2 sts. Repeat from * across. (dc/tr) in last st. Fasten off.

Row 96

Ch 3, *(sc/dc), into the top of ch-2 space, ch2, 3 (dc/tr) in the same ch-2 space, skip next 3(dc/tr) sts. Repeat from * across.(dc/tr) in last st. Fasten off.

Rows 97 - 99

Repeat Row 96 three times, changing colors if desired. Fasten off after each row.

Row 100

Ch 3, * V-st((dc/tr),ch1.(dc/tr)) into the top of each ch-2 space, skip next 3 (dc/tr) sts.Repeat from * across. (dc/tr) in last st. Fasten off.

Row 101

Ch 3, * (sc/dc) in ch-1 space, 6-(dc/tr) shell in next ch-1 space. Repeat from * across. (dc/tr) in last st. Fasten off.

Ch 3, Work only in the stitches of each 6-(dc/tr) shell from the previous row:
