Joining Small Flower Squares
How to Join Small Crochet Squares
This method shows how to join 4 small squares at a time to make your flower blanket. Each small square has 21 stitches per side.

Step 1 : Prepare Two Sets of Squares
1. Lay out 4 squares on a flat surface.
2. Place two pairs of squares, facedown on top of each other.
Step 2 : Join the First Two Squares
- Start with the first two squares.
- Join at the corner of the bottom square: Ch 2 (counts as first dc).
- Work 1 hdc into the corner space of the top square.
- Continue across the side:
- 1 hdc into next stitch of back (bottom) square
- 1 hdc into next stitch of front (top) square
- Repeat across the side until you reach the corner of the back square.
- End off this section.
+ Indicates corner sp, while + indicates each stitch per side of a small square, and blue hdc indicates where hdc stitches is to be worked.
Write side still facing together turn work so the unworked now the center of the large square ends being at the top
Step 3 : Add the Next Squares
- Join the third square to your first pair:
- 1 hdc into the corner of the back square.
- Skip the corner space of the front square.
- Attach the new front square with 1 hdc into its corner.
- Join the new back square with 1 dc into its corner.
- Work across the side:
- 1 hdc into next stitch of front square
- hdc into next stitch of back square
- Repeat until the corner of the back square.
- Join the fourth square using the same method.
Step 4 : Complete the Large Square
- After all 4 small squares are joined, place the work right side up, with the center of the large square at the top.
- Join into any corner space of the large square:
- Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch1).
- Work 1 dc into the next 21 stitches.
- 1 hdc into the join point where two hdc stitches meet.
- Repeat around all 4 sides, working dc stitches between the joined points, until you reach the corner.
- Finish the corner:
- 1 dc, ch2, 1 dc in the corner space.
- Continue this for all sides.
- Join with a slip stitch to the top of the starting ch.
- Finish off and weave in ends.
Step 5 : Repeat
- Continue joining sets of 4 squares following the same steps.
- Arrange your joined squares according to the diagram in the pattern for the proper layout.

- Repeat joining squares with B,C.D as noted.
- Follow the next step when you have joined your required number of squares.
- A - 3dc into the last ch-sp;
- B - Chain 2;
- C - 3dc into the first ch-sp of the next new square;
- 3dc between each 3dc-cl for each ch-sp of the side of the square;
- D - 3dc into the corner ch-sp of square, ch1;
- E - Sl into ch-sp;
- F - ch1, 3dc into the corner ch-sp of next new square, ;
- 3dc between each 3dc-cl for each ch-sp of the side of the square;
- G - Rep steps D + E + F for the remainder squares.
- A - 3dc into corner ch-sp of last joined square, ch2,
- B - 3dc into same corner ch-sp;
- 3dc between each 3dc-cl for each ch-sp of the side of the square;
- C - 3dc into the corner ch-sp of square, ch2, 3dc into same ch-sp
- 3dc between each 3dc-cl for each ch-sp of the side of the square,
- D - 3dc into the corner ch-sp of square, ch2, 3dc into same ch-sp,
- 3dc between each 3dc-cl for each ch-sp of the side of the square
- E - 3dc-cl, into last ch-sp from side of square, ch2, 3dc cl, first ch-sp of the next square.
- 3dc between each 3dc-cl for each ch;
- Repeat joining squares with C,D.E as noted.
- Once you have joined all the required squares in row,
- Repeat the same steps working back and join squares as you go.
- Once you have joined your last square
- A - Once you have joined your last square
- B - 3dc, ch2, 3dc into corner ch-sp;
- 3dc between each 3dc-cl for each ch-sp of the side of the blanket;
- C - 3dc into the corner ch-sp of square, ch2, 3dc into same ch-sp
- 3dc between each 3dc-cl for each ch-sp of the side of the blanket,
- Join with a slip stitch and finish off yarn.
